Blue Skies and Buttercups, oil on canvas, 180 x 120 x 3 cm
Blue Skies and Buttercups, summer joy and childhood innocence. We laughed and played in fields of wildflowers under endless blue skies. Sunshine warmed our skin and we thought the summer would never end. I try to recapture the child I was and remember the Blue Skies and Buttercups.
Created using both expressionist and impressionist techniques, Blue Skies and Buttercups uses dripped and thrown paint to create a tangled undergrowth of chaotic twisted stalks and stems. Yellow flowers splashed onto the artwork have then been built up in thick textured oil paint and wild roses have been added to contrast against the rich golden tones. A summer blue sky with broken flecks of colour within it suggests how the sky shimmers on a summer’s day. Blue Skies and Buttercups is ready to hang.
