Wild Spring Bloom, Oil and enamel on canvas, 200 x 120 x 2 cm on two canvas panels each measuring 100 x 120 x 2 cm (Diptych)
Wild Spring Bloom was inspired by the hillside near my home. The spring sunshine has turned the scrubland into a blaze of colour with wild lavender, an abundance of yellow broom, wild poppies and beautiful white morning star flowers. In my painting I wanted to capture the colour and beauty but also the wild disarray and chaos of the tangled branches and thick undergrowth. I used an expressionist style of painting with thrown and dripped paint to create the under painting then used impressionist palette knifed flowers to add focus and detail to the artwork. The oil paint is applied thickly creating texture and relief in the painting and gold splashed paint in the suggested undergrowth catches and reflects light adding depth to the painting. Wild Spring Bloom is created on two panels (Diptych). It is ready to hang.
