The Wheat Field, acrylic, enamel and oil on canvas 160 x 120 x 2 cm on two panels each measuring 80 x 120 x 2cm
Beyond the wheat fields, I search the evening. The sun has set. The sky stained indigo. The wheat field sways, a ripple of gold. Red poppies speak of lost love.
In The Wheat Field I wanted to create a simple painting expressing open space. A vast expanse of sky and field. My childhood memories are those of walking my dogs through wheat fields with my parents, of a setting sun and remembered warmth. I have painted The Wheat Field in an expressionist style using dynamic application of paint to create movement and texture, to represent the movement of the sky and grass. The painting is essentially abstract colour using the red poppies as a focal point to bring the viewer to the wheat field. Flecks of gold paint shine iridescent like flashes of golden sunshine. The Wheat Field.
