The Riotous Pink is a large abstract expressionist painting measuring 115 x 75 x 1.5cm. Inspired by my lust for sunshine and beauty in the dead of winter, I painted The Riotous Pink to bring me closer to spring and the colour and warmth of a rising suns heat. Today, as I write this, it is a beautiful winter’s day in January. It is bitterly cold but the light is strong and I feel the anticipation of spring’s dawn. I remember blossom on trees and flowers in bloom and the delight of being outdoors and feeling heat on my cheek. The roses are sleeping, soon they will wake and a riot of pink will greet me. I wanted to create a painting which suggests warmth, beauty and all things pink. The painting is essentially abstract colour but as the viewer takes in the shapes it becomes a beautiful wild bouquet of pink roses with delicate butterflies dancing in the colour. The beautiful semi abstract garden is alive with spring and the promise of summer. The Riotous Pink has been coated with a satin varnish to protect the pigments. The boxed edges are painted black. This painting is ready to hang.
