Summers End, oil and enamel on canvas, 160 x 90 x 3 cm
Summers End, blue skies streaked with clouds, the air is warm like a soft breath. The yellow field sways, a ripple of gold and a murmur of forgotten days. Pink poppies speak of lost love.
In Summers End I wanted to create a simple painting expressing open space. A vast expanse of sky and field. Memories of my childhood running in the fields, hiding from a long forgotten lover and laughing under a summer sun. A remembered warmth of summers past. I have painted Summers End in an expressionist style using a dynamic application of paint to create movement and texture, to represent the movement of the sky and fields in a summer breeze. The painting is essentially colour fields using the pink poppies as a focal point to bring the viewer into the landscape. Flecks of gold paint shine iridescent like flashes of golden sunshine.
