Simba, oil and enamel on canvas, 100 x 100 x 2 cm
Simba, he plays and pounces, a young lion filled with exuberance and confidence. A hunter in training, a predator in youth. Simba
Simba is the Swahili name for lion. In this painting I wanted to capture the playfulness of a young lion… a hunter in the maker. Curious and full of vigour, Simba has been created using an expressionist style of painting accompanied by fine art detail which creates a dynamic painting full of tension, and the power and strength of its subject. Gold flecks capture light in the painting adding depth and interest whilst the gaze of the lion is glassy and hyper realistic compared to the shaggy pose of the young king. Strong palette knifed strokes create texture and movement in the lions mane. Simba is ready to hang
