Shine Bright, oil, enamel and acrylic on canvas, 200 x 120 x 2 cm on two panels each measuring 100 x 120 x 2 cm
I remember childhood thunderstorms. In the heat of summer the clouds would come. Golden yellow mustard fields would sway and ripple in the wind as the storm struck. I think back to those summer days. The yellow flowers shone, they never faded, they never bowed to the wind and rain.
When life brings storm clouds I remember the mustard fields. I will not bow or fade. I will shine bright.
In creating Shine Bright I have used an expressionist application of paint to depict the chaos of the storm. Gold paint shimmers through the yellow to suggest fractured light. Crimson red poppies finish the painting and add focus to the wild landscape. The paint is applied thickly creating texture while dripped paint suggests tangled undergrowth. Shine Bright is ready to hang.
