Inspired by quay side lights reflecting in sea water. In Harbour lights I wanted to create an abstract painting which was full of the movement of water and the rippled lights of the buildings surrounding it. I had been taking an evening stroll around the harbour when the play of light dancing in the water struck me as a beautiful painting in its own right… without the boats, without the people, simply the water and the lights and the gentle movement. I set out to create an abstract work which fulfilled this inspiration. The colours were carefully selected to give the impression of water and fluidity but also to capture the shimmer and play of light surrounding the water and caught within the water. The paint application carefully layered colours to give the impression of this reflection and dance of light. The resulting painting is modern and contemporary bringing light into a room and giving the viewer a sense of calm and tranquillity and of gently moving within the ripples of the water. This painting is large at 100 x 100 x 3 cm. The boxed edges are painted black. Harbour lights is ready to hang.
