Sweet Cassia, oil and enamel on canvas, 170 x 110 x 3cm
Sweet Cassia, I watch the yellow blossom, transient beauty, fleeting and startling. I hold the memory, cherished. Blossoms on water, Yellow petals fall lazily in the lake. In the shade of the Cassia tree I look at the lake and the startling colour in the sunlight. I feel more fluid, more relaxed and chilled. Here I feel lulled.
My inspiration for this beautiful painting is a wonderful arboretum near my home where you can sit under the shade of a tree on the banks of a lake and let hours slip by. In spring time the blossoms on the trees are breath taking. The painting uses a contrast of expressionist dripped paint and palette knifed flowers with finely painted branches and textured blossoms to create a gloriously soothing artwork. Small flecks of gold leaf glitter and catch light like sun rays on water Sweet Cassia is ready to hang.
