Six cuts, six rings, six lives, six deaths. Six fallen trees. Life measured by layers of circular scars, memories of seasons past. A blaze of life… to burn
Inspired by autumn and the road side stacks of felled trees, I wanted to create an abstract work which represented these cut wood stacks.
There are loads of wood piles stacked neatly along the road sides here. The weather is still warm but you can feel the season changing and summers grasp on the year failing. On an evening there is a new fresh chill in the air and I find myself anticipating the wood burner being lit. The pace of life begins to slow as darkness descends earlier. The house smells faintly of wood smoke. An orange glow flickers and casts shadows across the living room wall as the fire catches and I feel a sleepy calm take hold.....
The painting captures an idea of life and heat and warmth by running gold paint through the concentric colour rings and background. The painting is signed on the front and is ready to hang…Six.
