Water Lilies, oil on canvas, 100 x 80 x 2 cm
Water Lilies, I float in peace, colours refract and blur my vision. Water Lilies crown the darkest depths, hiding things which lie beneath. Crooked, twisted stalks protrude, Reaching to the light, like Icarus toward the sun. Deep deep indigo fills me with calm. On a bed of Water Lilies.
Water Lilies has been created to suggest the colour and life in the depths of an indigo lake. Using dripped paint I have suggested the stalks of the lilies and with this the movement within the calm. I have used strong bold colours in the leaves to suggest the refracted sunlight and the rainbow colours which it reflects. Gold paint circles the lilies to capture gentle ripples in the water.
