Cherry Bomb, oil and acrylic on canvas, 120 x 120 x 3 cm
Named for the beloved Runaways Cherry Bomb song I wanted to capture something as chaotic and complex as the lyrics, with Cherry Blossom being the main attraction.
Inspired by my lust for sunshine and flowers, I painted Cherry Bomb to bring me closer to Spring and the colour and warmth of the Primavera. Blossom on trees and flowers in bloom, the delight of being outdoors and the feeling of heat on my cheek. The cherry trees awake and a riot of pink greets me. I wanted to create a painting which suggests sunshine, beauty and all things pink. The painting is an expressionist portrayal of a cherry tree branch in bloom. Fizzing with an abundance of pink blooms it is a chaotic frenzy of life and growth. It has been created using dripped and thrown paint, then given focus and clarity with finely painted blossoms and thick palette knife strokes, depicting petals and leaves. The beautiful semi abstract cherry tree branch is alive with spring and the promise of summer. Cherry Bomb has been coated with a satin varnish to protect the pigments. The boxed edges are painted black. It is ready to hang.
