Breaking Waves and Yellow Blossom is a large Painting measuring 200 x 100 x 3cm. It is painted on two panels designed to be hung next to each other, each panel measures 100 x 100 x 3cm. Breaking Waves and Yellow Blossom was inspired by the path I take when out walking. In February yellow blossom appears but waves still roll in hard and the wind can be wild. The tide ebbs and flows, the air is salty. I can feel a sheen of saltwater on my cheek. There is a wonderful dynamic energy, an effervescence of water. The play of the wind, the breaking waves, I can smell the sea, the freshness. I feel alive with energy but there is also a calm here. It is in the rhythm of the waves, the perpetual motion of the sea, the rise and fall of my chest as I breathe with the flow of the water. Whilst painting Breaking Waves and Yellow Blossom I wanted to the viewer to be drawn into the ocean, to feel the beat of the sea and to allow the waves to wash over them. I decided to keep this large painting simple, so the waves and water were exaggerated in their isolation with the slight offset of colour from the abstract blossom, which serves to give the viewer the suggestion of the wind blowing. The beautiful strong yellow of the blossom highlights the green of the sea and gives a permanent structure to the movement of the waves. Breaking Waves and Yellow Blossom is a striking painting for its simplicity and when I look at it I feel my pulse slow to the beat of the sea and my breathing becomes deep and calm. It is beautiful. Breaking Waves and Yellow Blossom has been created on high quality artist canvas stretched over bespoke wooden frames. Each panel measures 100 x 100 x 3cm and the total painting size is 200 x 100 x 3 cm making this a very large artwork and a statement piece for a room. The boxed edges are painted black and the painting has been given two coats of satin varnish to protect the pigments. This painting is ready to hang.
