Beautiful Disorder, acrylic and oil on canvas, 100 x 120 x 2 cm
Beautiful Disorder is an expressive celebration of colour, movement and the wonderfully unruly nature of flowers. Cascades of magenta, violet, pink and soft peach tumble through the composition, entwined with dark sweeping branches and unexpected flashes of blue and green.
I wanted the blossom to feel abundant and alive rather than carefully arranged. Layers of dripped and thrown paint overlap with looser gestural marks, allowing colours to merge, interrupt and reveal one another. Against the deeper shadows, some of the flowers seem almost illuminated, while others disappear into the tangle of branches and colour.
There is a language to the way flowers grow: chaotic, instinctive and completely unconcerned with perfection. Beautiful disorder is my interpretation of that wonderful dynamic chaos, capturing a fleeting moment when everything seems to be flowering at once.
