The regret of Eve is a conceptual painting of Eve. The Regret of Eve is a large painting encompassing various thoughts and dimensions. Eve herself sits in contemplation, her face turned away from the viewer, eyes downcast....does she sit in remorse? Is she embarrassed by her nudity? Is she defiant and sure of her choice? Her hands cover her body with the knowledge of her bareness. The plant to her left is representative of the garden of Eden and the colourful mat is suggestive of the spectrum of life in the perfect garden. The painting of the apple sits on the wall to the right of Eve, framed as a symbol to remember and poignant in its meaning for man. Eve herself has been painted with unrefined large sweeping strokes. Eve knows only the wild beauty of the garden and the strong brush strokes are symbolic of this. Colour is strong and vibrant, as Eve is also, her body ripe, rotund and fertile. Men punished women and blamed Eve in creation stories for her seductiveness...I think Eve's only regret is the power of man over her. The Regret of Eve, acrylic and oil on canvas, 101 X 76 X 3 cm
