Summer Storms and Wild Roses is a large abstract expressionist painting measuring 100 x 136 x 3 cm. A summer storm… ink black clouds gather furiously overhead, a wind whips up the grass around my legs, a warm breeze stirs the air. The first drops of rain, sparse and welcome in the heat, herald a downpour. Quickly the rain gathers force, I shelter under a tree. I can smell the rain, fresh and earthy, the cool water on my cheeks. Wild roses quench their thirst. The clouds move quickly and summer light beckons in the sky. This is my inspiration for Summer Storms and Wild Roses. I wanted the painting to maintain abstract colour and shape whilst suggesting a storm and light. After a storm, colours always appear exaggerated against the black clouds and I wanted to capture this strength and also the freshness that the rain brings. Within the abstract garden are beautiful delicate butterflies which bring a focus and identity to the painting. This painting is essentially based on abstract colour but the viewer can see on closer inspection a garden, wild and free. Summer Storms and Wild Roses is painted on high quality artist canvas stretched over a bespoke wooden frame. The boxed edges are painted black. Summer Storms and Wild Things is ready to hang.
