Rose Madder on Gold, oil, enamel and acrylic on canvas, 100 x 80 x 1 cm
The sun burns, scarlet blood. It dyes the sky. Rose Madder on Gold
Inspired by a fierce red sunset I wanted to capture more than a silhouette against red. I wanted to represent the shards of golden light refracting from the bleached grass heads, the twisting, crooked tendrils of spindly branches and the ghostly phantom shapes of an old wild roses. Delicate blue cornflowers bloom through the grass and tiny white flower heads fight through the tangle to drink in the hedonistic light. Rose Madder on Gold
Rose Madder on Gold has been painted in a free expressionistic style to represent the changing light and shapes of the countryside. The boxed edges are painted black. The painting has been finished with a satin varnish and is signed on the front. Rose Madder on Gold is ready to hang.
