Floral Embers, Oil and Enamel on canvas, 120 x 100 x 2 cm
Floral Embers is inspired by nature, those beautiful blood red silken embers which appear on the hillside in summer. Poppies symbolises remembrance and, for all their cheerful exuberance, poppies also suggest pain and lost love. They are a contradiction. I wanted Floral Embers to suggest both these sides of the beautiful wild poppy, The joy of life and blooming and the burning embers of all things lost. The exuberance and the pain. The colours are muted but the red is dramatic. The undergrowth is dark and wild against the flower heads. Floral Embers has been created in an expressionist style with dripped and thrown paint to suggest the chaos of nature, whilst the leaves and flowers are painted with more clarity in an impressionist style to bring focus to the artwork. Floral Embers is ready to hang.
