Boy in a tree, 90 x 90 x 3 cm, acrylic and oil on canvas. Boy in a tree, the summer heat. languid, relaxed.
Boy in a tree was inspired by Picasso and his modern figure painting. I wanted to create a scene which suggested the form of the boy but made you sit and look longer at the figure to understand the distorted perspective. I find when paintings don't represent accurately an image it becomes all the more intriguing as the distortion is a suggestion for the viewer, a starting point to consider the scene further. For me the elongated limbs represent the growth of boy to man and his position in the tree suggests he is looking out through the green leaves of summer to a future as a man ... enjoying the simple days of summer, care free and calm. Boy in a tree is ready to hang.
