Poppy Love, Oil and Enamel on canvas, 120 x 100 x 2 cm
Poppy Love is inspired by nature, those beautiful blood red polka dots which appear on the hillside in summer. Poppies symbolises remembrance and, for all their cheerful exuberance, poppies also suggest pain and lost love. They are a contradiction. I wanted Poppy Love to suggest both these sides of the beautiful wild poppy. The exuberance and the pain. The colours are muted but the red is dramatic. The undergrowth is dark and wild against the flower heads. Poppy Love has been created in an expressionist style with dripped and thrown paint to suggest the chaos of nature, whilst the leaves and flowers are painted with more clarity in an inpressionist style to bring focus to the artwork. Poppy Love is ready to hang.
